Beach Bums

What do you do when the temperature hits 35.4 Degrees Celsius or 95.7 Degrees Fahrenheit?  Pray for snow, then remember you have to shovel it, then head to the beach!  This week we were very thankful that Lake Ontario never seems to warm up.  Cobourg Beach, in my opinion, is the cleanest and safest beach around.  Highly recommended!

iPhone VS Blackberry

It's true my friends, I am stepping out of the stone-age and into modern technology.  But, I have no idea where to start.  So I am asking for a short comment on which phone you would choose and why.  That's it, one simple question, iPhone or Blackberry??

Death to House Work

This post is a bit of a rant about the way I am feeling lately.  First of all, my house is for sale, which basically means, just pretend you live in it.  I hate house work to begin with and a for sale sign means I have to do it constantly just in case someone decides to come through it.  My children are 2 going on 20 and 6...enough said.  When the agent calls, I run around like a headless chicken, jamming our dressers full of unfolded clothes and kicking toys under the beds.  If people could only see it my way they would appreciate the mess and see that this house has lots of floor space for the 8034680 pieces of Lego my son owns.  And they could also see there is ample room for a never ending train track which runs through the rec room, into the laundry room and back, then circles around the computer desk.  And to top it all off, they would notice the fabulous air flow that makes the dust bunnies scurry out from underneath the furniture when the wind blows.

Where is Mary Poppins when I need her to clean my damn house?!

Here is hoping this house sells soon so I can enjoy summer outside and not worry about the mess inside.

Cucumber Salad

Local cucumbers and tomatoes, what could be better??

1 English Cucumber
1 Medium Tomato, seeded and chopped
1 tbsp Dijon Mustard
3-4 Tbsp White Wine Vinegar
fresh ground black pepper
sea salt

Peel some of the cucumber skin, and slice.  Cut each slice in half.  In a medium bowl, add cucumber and sprinkle with sea salt.  Let sit in the fridge for about 5-10 minutes to allow cucumber to crisp.  Meanwhile, in a small bowl combine mustard and vinegar.  Add to cucumber and stir.  Add tomatoes and pepper just before serving, and mix well.  Enjoy!

Naturally Clean Produce

Baking Soda

Baking soda has a million and one uses, but my favourite is cleaning produce.  With all of the things we find stuck to our fruits and veggies like waxes, pesticides and just plain dirt, I think it's important to clean them the best we can.  Simply rinse produce, sprinkle with baking soda, rub, and rinse.  Done!

Naan Pizza

In my opinion, Naan flat bread makes the BEST pizza crust.  They are also the perfect size for individual pizzas, especially when there are picky kids involved.  Here is my recipe for a great pizza.

Small container of pizza sauce
Monterey Jack cheese, shredded
Parmesan cheese, grated
All natural smoked salami,
All natural oven roasted ham
Sweet cocktail tomatoes, thinly sliced
red pepper, chopped

Ahh Fruit flies!

Let me just say, I HATE fruit flies.  I swear they follow me home from the grocery store, hitching a ride on everything I buy, even if I didn't buy anything from the produce department.  This week I bought strawberries, and even though they are long gone, I have fruit flies.  So I turn to the only thing that works: Wine.

1. Grab a cereal bowl.
2. Pour enough red, or sweet fruit wine, to cover bottom of bowl.
3. Cover with plastic cling wrap, and pull tightly.
4. Use a toothpick and poke about 20 holes.
5. Leave sitting out over night, and voila!  The little buggers should be trapped and half drunk!
